World of Volvo
22,000 square metres of storytelling
Gothenburg’s spectacular new landmark World of Volvo has opened to the public. It is a 22,000 square metre powerhouse where each and every part of the experience centre has a story to tell. The joint venture between Volvo Cars and Volvo Group aims to be a destination of choice for all visitors to Gothenburg, not only Volvo enthusiasts. This massive undertaking is a project
several years in the making involving countless suppliers and collaborating partners. Realise Communication, who was commissioned to design and build the entire exhibition, approached WAU to help create a unique educational and fun exhibit for the Volvo Trucks section, Heroes of the Highway and a film about Volvo design in the interactive DO section.

Challenge
The mission for the Heroes of the Highway exhibit was to make it interactive and appealing to families, in the effort to pique their curiosity for trucks and trucking. With a tight deadline, WAU’s creative team got to work on the three sections: Truck Trivia, Who drove your breakfast, and Keep life rolling.
The film about Volvo design was to describe the brand’s philosophy. This film would be featured in the DO section where visitors get up-close, hands-on experiences.
Solution
For Heroes of the Highway, WAU’s team produced interactive videos with truck drivers about their life on the road, a truck trivia wall with interesting facts about trucks, and a spinning wheel showing how quickly our everyday is affected when trucks stop rolling. This assignment included design, content and video production.
For the Design at Volvo video production, WAU developed the Point-of-View concept, “In the head of a Volvo designer” and produced a studio film that tells that story of how Volvo designers think and create – always with people and safety in mind.
In addition, WAU copywriters helped tell the stories in both the Rewind and Safe Spaces exhibits. We also edited more than 150 videos shown throughout the exhibition.
This venue is in constant motion, so the work has already begun with Realise on how to update the exhibition with exciting new elements.
